Funnel hacking - or whatever you wanna call it

A couple of years ago a friend and I set up a new offer.

It was a monthly premium newsletter where we analysed, broke down, and explained the successful growth models of big brands.

People loved it and - in particular - the Noom analysis still drives traffic, leads, and customers despite never having been updated.

We never got it to the point of scale, but it was valuable in other ways.

Analysing and writing about the successful growth strategies of brands, helped me notice patterns.

Patterns that were at the core of some huge successes.

Patterns I could pretty much lift from the analysed brand and install in my own biz, or those of my clients.

A lot of the ACCER Model refinement came from the information and insights I gleaned from analysing the strategies behind $100M+ brands.

So, why'd we stop doing them?

2 reasons.

The first is we never quite got the messaging right to bring more people into the offer, and then other more profitable opportunities came up for us both (as a result of these analyses I might add).

The second is that these things took an absolute age to create.

They were like 10,000+ words of detailed analysis.

The research alone would take weeks, the writing of the info days, more days to edit, and then a lot of time spent creating custom images as neither of us were good designers.

It left us with little other time to scale the offer and work on our own marketing.

So it collapsed.

But I still think this approach to analysing what's working in your industry, deconstructing it to it's parts and system, and seeing how you can implement it in your own biz is highly valuable.

In fact, looking at what brands and people DO rather than what they SAY is key to figuring out what's actually working right now.

I still analyse funnels, offers, strategies, and more to keep on top of the current trends.

But, I don't have the time to do it at the scale I used to.

I'd recommend that, if you want to improve your marketing, you start analysing what's really working out there.

Look at what people are doing that's helping them grow, analyse it and think about whether or not you could test it in your business.

If you don't know where to start or aren't sure how to go about this, then look for others who are already doing the analyses.

There's a lot of people out there who are now doing this kind of newsletter and content.

They offer a great starting point for your own research.

Try to match it to your kind of business though.

For example, I like keeping things bootstrapped and doing things my own way rather than having to throw loads of VC money at it.

So I look at newsletters like Bootstrapped Growth to help me find what's working right now and understand what I might need to consider.

They basically provide you with real-life growth exmaples and how to apply them to your business.

If you wanna check them out and subscriber for more, check them out here.

Whether or not you get your starting point from these kind of newsletters or not, the point is, keep an eye on what's working and look at what people are doing, NOT what they say they're doing.

This is how you stay on top of developing trends.

Quick note before the weekend. I’ve had a few replies this week from people who are looking for help scaling in 2026. I’m booking the last couple of calls for this opportunity. If you’re thinking: “I should probably look at this, but I’ll come back to it later” You might want to at least look at getting in touch. I dunno what my availability is gonna be like later and, if I'm near capacity, I'm more likely to see how I can fit someone I've spoken into the schedule. So if you think that maybe...

Wanna know what the biggest sign of a lack of strategy is? It’s indecision. If you lack any kind of strategy, everything can feel like it's the right move. You end up getting caught with the whole analysis paralysis thing where... ... More ads could help.... More content could help.... A new offer could help.... A new channel could help. So nothing gets ruled out. Everything gets added to a "to-do" list and everyone starts feeling overwhelmed, not really knowing where to start. That’s when...

Picture this... You've identified the problem in your business. Where things break down and money is being lost. You analyse, design the fix, and set everyone on the path to implementing that fix. Time to pop the champaign right? Nope. After you've built that awesome fix, you see... nothing. No improvements, no meaningful changes, no new sales. And you're back to square one. It's a problem I see a lot. People fixing the symptom, but completely missing the cause. here's what I mean. I worked...
