The SLO benefit no one talks about

I'm doing SLO (self-liquidating offer) month in the GM+ Community from November so jump in now if you want some help in setting up a cashflowing SLO in your biz.

Now, onto the secret benefit of SLOs no one talks about...

--------

If I mention SLO to you, what's the first thing you think of?

Probably that it allows you to put a $1 into advertising and get a $1 back right?

I mean, that's what the name implies. And it's true.

But there's another benefit which, in my mind, is way more important.

That benefit is the data your SLO will provide you with.

Here's what I mean.

I don't have big social followings or engagement.

I have a few hundred people who follow on Facebook, and about 26 on Instagram.

When I share ideas, opinions, or offers there, I get barely any engagement.

Here's the 28-day engagement view from Insta (the 100 engagements is from an ad I ran).

And here's the readout from Facebook.

I'm looking at maybe 100-200 engagements over a month. And that's with a daily posting schedule.

When I'm making a decision on whether or not an angle, offer, or idea has legs, I usually wait until it's reached 1500 people.

On this engagement timeline, that would be between 7-15 months to get feedback on whether or not something has potential.

I could launch - at best - 2 ideas per year to see how they hit.

Way. Too. Slow.

I'll have missed opportunities before I even knew they were there.

But, throw a little money at the offers and angles and you can figure out what works in super quick time.

At the end of last week, I set up a new ad set and put a modest spend on it.

Within ~4 days and ~1500 people reached, I've got some good data to work with.

I've figured out that...

  • Video is the best content format for me
  • That the angle of cutting out freebie seekers is impactful and relevant for the audience
  • Instagram gets me a better ROAS than Facebook

I can take that and create new campaigns that...

  1. Use video
  2. Talk about cutting out freebie seekers
  3. Focus on Instagram

... and that should help me get more results.

Now, usually, that's a bit of a risk. I could have spent £150 on this and got nothing back but that data.

Fine when you've got a nice little war chest full of investor money that's marked for finding what works, not so great when you're bootstrapping.

This is where the SLO bit helps out.

If you notice above, these ads are driving traffic to my SLO - the $1 product challenge.

I'm getting an average 2.13 ROAS from it.

Which means I'm getting £2.13 for every £1 spent.

And if you look at the video ad, it's generating £3.40 for every £1 spent.

So, I've not just managed to collect some good data on the channels, format, and angles I should be exploring, but I've also been paid to do so.

Not bad at all.

That's the real power of an SLO.

You can pay to increase your reach which gives you more data to make better decisions... faster.

if you don't have an SLO and want help setting one up, jump into the GM+ Community before the end of the month.

November is SLO month in GM+ where we'll be setting up a profitable SLO for you.

Yesterday I mentioned "The Thread." That invisible line connecting your first ad or cold outreach to the moment a client signs a contract for the big thing. And when you're getting fewer sales for the "big thing", most founders think the solution is to simply add "more." More leads. More SDRs. More ad spend. But if your "Thread" is broken, "More" is just an expensive way to realise your system is leaking. I mean, if you've got a bucket with no bottom, throwing more water in the top isn't...

I’m starting the outreach for a new business venture today. Most people at this stage do the 'tactical' thing... They buy a list Hire a virtual assistant to spam LinkedIn asking for a call or promoting the offer And hope for a 1% reply rate. A huge waste of capital and time. With the new venture, I've spent the last week building out the architecture behind the offer. I’ve been mapping the 'Thread' that connects the first touchpoint to the final contract. Most businesses, even those doing...

I’m curious... What AI are you actually using? Or are you just "collecting" subscriptions? We’ve been debating this in GM+ lately because, frankly, the shine has worn off OpenAI for me. To give you some context, I’ve been an OpenAI power user since the start. But the 5.2 release? It’s woeful. I spend more time arguing with the "Custom GPTs" than I do getting actual work done. I guess they told it to stop being so sycophantic, now it's like a petulant little kid who doesn't like when you tell...
