Fundamentals always win

I'm fed up of the grandiose claims these AI companies are making.

The latest I've seen is how OpenAI's latest model, Astra, is a "new generation of intelligence" and how people in the space are saying AGI is finally here.

Fool me once and all that.

I remember the last round of claims were about how Fable was a danger to society. And how it's going to turn everything upside down and on its head.

When the truth is far from it.

Fable is pretty damn deficient in a lot of stuff. It responds to simple questions like an insecure fresh graduate who's read a single book on the topic and overexplains everything to make themselves seem smarter than they are.

Makes it hard to understand the sole point in the wall of bullshit.

Anyway, that's not to say AI isn't useful.

I'm still using it daily and saving a tonne of time by having it do the right things.

But what I've discovered through these last several "improvements" of AI is that it is not a decent solution to someone who knows what they are doing - and I'm not sure it ever will be.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say AI is terrible at...

• Advice
• Strategy
• Unique approaches to existing problems

The fundamentals of effective business growth are the same today as they have been for the last 100 years.

The difference in success is figuring out how to apply those same fundamentals to modern channels, trends, people etc.

AI just can't do it.

It'll recommend a strategy that worked for someone 10+ years ago with 100% confidence, leaving you chasing a dream that will never materialise.

AI is useful as an implementer.

But it's a crap strategist.

If you want to win, you have to make sure your understanding of the fundamentals is solid, and you're constantly looking at and testing how to implement them in the modern world.

The only shortcut I've found for this is to find someone who is a step or two ahead of you and get them to give you the shorthand version of what actually works right now.

So, those are the steps to get better growth IMO.

1. Keep on studying the concepts that have always worked because people are people
2. Implement them in the real world to see how you can apply them to today's life
   1. And if you want a shortcut, try and find people 1-2 steps ahead and ask for advice

Simple.

There's your action list for the next month or three.
