Ever heard of the rule of 7?

It’s basically the idea that your prospect needs to see your offer, ad, promotion, business or whatever 7 times before they feel comfortable making a purchase.

A lot of marketing advice, strategy, and tactics have been built around this over the last few decades.

But, what if it’s all BS?

Stumbled across what can only be called an interesting argument on Linkedin over the weekend about this topic.

Short version is…

  • CEO of investment bank says that 5 touchpoints ±2 is what you should be aiming for.
  • Seasoned marketing strategist says it’s all BS
  • They argue back and forth (check out the link as it’s pretty funny)

They basically call each other dumb and say they can’t understand stats.

What I thought was most interesting was how the strategist brought some interesting stats and facts like…
