Lowering the bar

I’m running a job ad on UpWork right now to see if we can bring the Custom GPTs I’ve created into the community.

It’s been a while since I’ve hired through UpWork, but I am amazed at how far the bar has lowered in just a year or two.

I’ve always had some immediate disqualifications that help me avoid the real low-value providers.

But thanks to AI, it feels like I’m gonna be filtering more people.

Within minutes of adding this job posting I had 9 applications (up to 14 as I write this). Most of them were obviously AI-generated applications.

And they were bad AI-generated applications. They quoted the posting in weird ways and had that unmistakable AI language.

Anyway, I’m not saying don’t use AI.

What I am saying is that other people’s overreliance on AI is lowering the bar.

It’s making it easier for someone who takes even a little bit of time to refine their AI output to stand out and be a “top performer”.

Hell, the AI assistants I’m bringing over to the community have helped secure thousands of dollars in sale over the last few months in record time.

But that’s because we use them to generate drafts quickly before going over them manually to refine and make sure it’s on point.

Most people refuse to do that second part.

If you do that second part, you’ll be able to make more of an impressions and land more sales.

The AI then becomes simply a tool to help you operate faster.

I feel like it’s going to get way more crowded with service providers out there, but a little extra work from you will make it easy to stand out form the crowd.

If you want to share what you're doing with AI or get some help, join the convo here.

P.S.

Want a little more direct help from me? Here's a few ways I could help out.

Also, if you're looking for help with your growth, hit reply and le tme know as I'm taking on a few more people. There's a chap I bought a course form a couple of years ago. Big name in the content marketing space, someone you'll likely know the name of. Back then, I paid $2k for this course (no regrets, it was good). Today I got an email from him with his Black Friday...

This morning I was analysing a quiz funnel for GM+. Decent ad. Simple flow. Looks clean on the surface. But there’s one issue that’ll kill his results completely… and a lot of people are making the same mistake without realising. He built a funnel that prioritises quantity, not quality. Here’s what I mean. The ad attracts the wrong crowd His whole front-end message is “grab this free thing”. Cheap clicks. Big volume. But it drags in the exact people who never buy anything. The freebie crowd...
