Why charge for this?

I've sent a couple of emails recently that have lead to this page.

If you've not seen it, it's a page where you can grab...

  • A $100 consult (down from $250)
  • A personalised ACCER build plan
  • A training video about building more profitable models

Anyway, someone messaged me and said something to the effect of...

"Why are you charging for this when most people do these strategy sessions for free?"

It's simple. I'll explain the full reasoning below, but from a high level it comes down to 2 things.

  1. If anything is free, YOU are the product
  2. Buyers buy again

Here's what I mean.

Have you ever booked a "free strategy session" with someone?

I've booked loads, and I've conducted even more.

These calls are NEVER about actually helping the person with their problem.

They are a sales call masquerading as a helpful consult.

It's free because the person is hoping to monetise YOU. Usually through getting you to buy their high ticket thing.

These "strategy" calls usually follow the same process...

  1. Ice break
  2. Get them to talk about the problem (so they're reminded about the pain of not solving it)
  3. Get them to tell you what they've tried (so your offer can be positioned as a better way)
  4. Get them to talk about what they're losing by not fixing this (so the loss is quantifiable to them)
  5. Get them to tell you what their "dream outcome" is (so you can promise to deliver it)
  6. You customise your pitch based on the above so it feels liek the perfect solution to the user and they're more likely to buy.

Voila, you have something that might sell a product, and you've managed to give away exactly no useful info in doing so.

It sounds like I'm shitting on these, but I'm not trying to.

They work. I've made money with them, others have made way more than I have and are still using them.

But, you end up with a lot of people who will never buy and are just info collectors.

Here's what I mean by that.

A while back I was asked to become a mentor on a marketplace. I agreed.

I did 20 different consults with people - all for free - through this platform.

I received nothing but 5 star reviews from each person.

Guess how many of those people turned into clients or bought anything at all from me?

Exactly 0.

That's 20 hours of my time given away with nothing to show for it.

I know the marketplace makes a tidy profit from them booking these sessions, but I get nothing.

This has played out the exact same in my own free consults.

When I give value and genuine advice out for free, the person never buys.

Why would they.

I gave them everything they need for free.

The real issue is, 99% of the time, these people don't even use the advice I give them.

They say it's great, they'll implement it, and all that jazz, but they do nothing with it.

Why?

Because they're collecting info.

They talk to 10 different people who have 10 different approaches that cannot be melded together. At the end of those 10 consults, they're more confused than ever.

Compare this to people who pay.

Folk who have bought either a paid consult with me or one of my low ticket offers are the opposite end of the spectrum.

They've got skin in the game and almost always they...

  • Implement what I recommend
  • Work hard to get results
  • Come back and buy from me again to get even better results

And, generally speaking, the people who pay are running more serious businesses.

In the last 2 months I've connected with and sold multiple products and services to 7, 8, and 9-figure entrepreneurs. All of these began with a low-ticket sale.

The low ticket game is a filter for those who are serious.

You end up with far fewer leads, doing a fraction of the calls, but you end up making more money and working with serious folks.

Which means you help them get serious results.

That's why I'm charging for these calls.

I'm trying to connect with serious people, and I actually want to help them get a result instead of just trying to sell them something.

I love all those posts and explanations where people are like... "To make $1M / year all you need to do is make $83,000 per month, which is $19,200 per week, or $2700 per day" I mean, they're not wrong. But basic math isn't what's holding most folks back. And in fact, I find this often confuses most folk. They get all sorts of mad ideas about how to hit that $2700 and something per day. Launching new products Jumping onto new channels Setting up new ad campaigns Here's the thing I've seen...

"I WaNnA SeT Up A SelF LiQuiDaTing oFFeR PeTE" After the $1 Product Challenge took off, I had a lot of people reach out with a message like the above. And it's cool, and I can help you do it... ... BUT... I often dissuade a lot of folk from doing this. Why? Cause for some people, it's not the right time. Look, an SLO or $1 product has one purpose. To get more people into your business at cost or minor profit. It's about VOLUME of buyer leads, not about profit. A lot of the time, SLOs operate...
